It all started with this handsome fella, affectionately known as ‘Mr Stinky’. He was a rescue dog, diagnosed as a ‘problem dog’, having not been socialised and prone to separation anxiety.
After studying modern dog behaviour and training methods, then applying them to Mr Stinky, he gained confidence and learned how to ‘be a dog’! When he went back for his post-adoption assessment, the centre couldn’t believe how much he had changed. He had worked so hard!
Our bond was the strongest ever, although we were only together for two years (he was 10 when he came to me and passed quickly following an auto-immune disorder) and life just wasn’t the same without him.
After Mr Stinky, 12 week old Monkey came into my life. Having always had older rescue cats and dogs, I decided I wanted more. I didn’t want to grieve every few years, I wanted a whole life.
I wanted to have more time with my boy, less time in the office, and spend my life surrounded by dogs and so Somerset Dog Walking was born! I wanted Somerset Dog Walking to be everything I wanted in a dog walker – professional, reliable, passionate about dogs and who made walks that worked the dogs in mind as well as body, who dropped of a happy (but not over-excited) dog.
As a team, we’ve invested time scouting out the best walks, some off the beaten track, some right in the heart of Bridgwater. We spend weekends looking out for more. We’ve researched local rules and regulations, locations of public rights of way, walk responsibly and respectfully – and always, always pick up the poop! We firmly believe that as Professional Dog Walkers, it’s up to us to set an example, and we try to be the best we can be.
We have now grown to a team of three walkers, all with a love of dogs and a passion for helping them to be the best they can be. We love to research new games, new places to walk, new things we can teach our dogs – the walks are as interesting and fun for us as they are for the dogs. We love our job!
Meet the Team
Zoe is our Chief Pooper Scooper and Head of Happiness. She had the daft idea that working outdoors in all weathers and playing with dogs that roll in mucky stuff would be fun…and she was right! It’s hard, but it’s the best job in the world.
She is happiest in wellies, traipsing through the Somerset countryside with (wo)man’s best friends for company. Pure bliss!
Leigh has over 20 years experience of working and training dogs of all shapes and sizes. Her own dog reached national competition obedience levels. She has a genuine passion for all things four legged, but especially her canine companions.
She likes nothing more than working a group of her best friends on a walk and building bonds with all our dogs.
GeeGee is awesome, we love her, but we don’t have her bio yet so we’ll speak for her for now. She is a breath of calm fresh air. She takes everything in her stride, and her love of dogs is clear to see. She has a natural understanding of canine communication.
She has only been with us a short time, but has fitted right in and the team just wouldn’t be the same without her.
